Music Video Ideas

My group and I put together 3 ideas of our music video that we will be soon constructing. We then left it up to feedback from our fellow peers who decided which one should be our final idea. I put together the results of their decision into a graph below to make our data easier to analyse.

Our Final Idea:

Group brainstorm:

Choosing our song:

Our class were given a website that has a list of copyright-free songs in which we had to pick for our music video - https://audionetwork.lgfl.org.uk

The four songs we liked chose as a group were:

  •  Loves Got A Hold
  •  Old School Jam
  • To Love Me
  • It's Too Late Now

After some feedback on our song choices from our class, they voted for the song that appealed to them the most, which was 'It's Too Late Now'.

What's it about?

Our chosen song; It's Too Late Now, is about a female girl group admitting their regret and bad decisions. They describe a girl that has broken up with her boyfriend and has now realised that she has made a mistake and wants him back. The lyrics and our music video will reflect the meaning of the song, and will therefore be a Narrative.

We chose the name Soul Sistas for our group as it reflected well on our chosen song; 'It's Too Late Now'.
Our song is about relationships and heartache which is sung with passion & affection; we agreed that when we perform this song we will be (lip) singing from the soul as if we were experiencing the pain ourselves and as sisters because we are so close, thus Soul Sistas would have been an appropriate name.

However, we experienced an issue with our group name as we found that Soul Sistas was already taken. We then spent some time brainstorming again and came up with the name Brown Eyes. The fact that all of our members have brown eyes would mean that our group name would be a good representation of our group.

  • Brown Eyes

Deciding on the font

for our group name:

The font of a title plays a big role when it comes to album covers; it reflects the artists image as a whole as well as their album theme.

In this video we talk through our group discussion on what styles of font we should use for our name: Brown Eyes, on the album cover.

We mention that we would like our font to be feminine yet simple, as we are all young sophisticated women in our group, and would like to portray this image for our girl band through our font.

Music Video Inspiration:

We gained inspiration for our music video through various aspects of other girl-group videos. We generated ideas that we would like to incorporate into our music video. The music videos that have helped us to create ideas for our videos are as follows;

Destiny's Child - Cater 2 U

The Saturdays - Up

This RnB video inspired us to wear similar colour outfits but have out own individual style. We believe this helps us to show individuality between members of our group, as well as unity.

This music video gave us the idea to elevate ourselves. The Saturdays, along with Destiny's Child, also wear the same colour outfits  but have different styles.

Destiny's Child - Stand up for love

Jennifer Lopez - All I have

This music video uses the Fading editing technique. We would like to incorporate this technique into our own video as we think this will be extremely effective in our story-line. (Ex-boyfriends disappear which will emphasise loss and sorrow and allow our audience to feel sympathetic).

This inspired us to use a rotating shot of our girl group standing back to back, having the camera revolve around us whilst singing. To add originality to this, we will be elevated and will be standing on a raised platform instead of the ground.

Destiny's Child - Emotion

I have used split screening in my Media As Thriller coursework last year, therefore have some experience in how to accomplish this technique. Audiences find this very effective as it allows them to gain an insight as to what is happening to more than one character. We found that this is present in Destiny's Child's song -  Emotion and worked really well in emphasising various characters' lives. This gave us inspiration to use a split screening technique so that our target audience will be able to follow our story line clearly within our music video.
